Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has officially announced his departure from the club at the end of the current season. The Brazilian, who moved to Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, has played quite a few matches for the English club – a total of 151 games.
During his time with the Blues, Silva managed to appreciate and show his talent, winning three significant trophies with the team. Among them, the most significant was, of course, the title of winner of the Champions League in the 2020/21 season.
The 39-year-old defender did not hide his emotions when talking about his attitude towards the club. He described his love for Chelsea as “indescribable”. “This club means an incredible amount to me. When I came here, I planned to stay for only a year, but in the end, four years flew by like one day,” he noted.
Thiago Silva joined Chelsea during Frank Lampard’s tenure. Since then, the Brazilian has worked under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino. Silva has made 34 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this season, including 25 in the Premier League.
Former defender of the Italian AC Milan and the Brazilian national team, where he played 113 matches, Thiago Silva expressed hope that his Chelsea career is not over yet. He stated that he would be keen to return to Stamford Bridge in a new role in the future. “I hope to leave the door open so that I can return here in the near future, albeit in a different role,” he said.
